The masters course in Social Work conducted by Dr. M.V. Shetty College of Social work is based on the need for social action to help people especially the disadvantaged, to function as best as they can in their environment. The social work profession has its own body of knowledge, code of ethics and practice standards. The aim of the course is to produce  resourceful post graduates who can

• promote self sufficiency in individuals and in communities, strengthening family relationships
  
• and restoring individuals, families and groups to successful social functioning.
  
• act as instruments for recruitment, training, and nurturing capabilities in H.R.D. programmes.
  
• facilitate health care provision and take communication initiatives to bring about patient environment adjustment in medical and psychiatric settings.
  
• act as advocates for social causes involving awareness building, social activism and follow up measures.
