Department of Community Health Nursing
Philosophy:

We believe prevention is better than cure. Community services provided by our students  at door steps of  people/community  could able to prevent diseases, promote and maintain  the health of the people /community. It is possible as a health team members  to detect the health  condition at earliest and to maintain the prompt treatment if any in the community level. We strive for  rehabilitate the people to bring them back as normal as possible.

Aims:

1.Community Health Nursing  services for promotive ,preventive, curative and rehabilitative  aspects of care to the people across their life span in wide  variety of community  care settings.
2.To be   the part of all National Health Programmes  and contribute  for health  of  our country.

Objectives  of Community Health Nursing Department

Community  Health Nursing at Dr.M.V.Shetty College of Nursing aim to prepare  students to assume  responsibilities as a community health nurse practitioner, consultants, counsellors, educators and administrators in a different areas of Community Specialities/Settings/Practice areas.

Our major objectives for the  Master program to;
  • assist student to develop expertise  and in depth understanding of the field of  Community Health Nursing.
  • help the student to appreciate and identify individual, families, groups  and work as  independent Community Health Practitioner and Specialist.
  • enable them to function as an educator, manager and researcher in the field of community health Nursing.

Objectives of the U.G.Programme
  • To prepare students to understand the principles of promotion and maintainance  of health and prevention of diseases.
  • To prepare  students to practice  community health nursing for the individual, family and groups at urban/ rural settings by using concept and principles  of community health nursing.
  • To develop initial skills in organizing health programmes ,conducting  projects developing protocols at community field area.
  • To understand various health agencies functioning at  local, central and international level towards the health.

Activities Of the Department:

1. Survey of the allotted/adopted area.
2. Identify  health problems and provide  nursing care services  as per need.
3 .Awareness programmes  to the community.
4 .Organizing  health programmes.
5 .Participating in all the National Health  Programmes.
6. Need based  Project  work.
7. Participating in activities of Primary Health Care and Family Welfare Centres.
8 .Organizing In service education to staff of Primary Health Centre and health care workers.
9. Develop family folders.
10.Observe  all the National  Health Days in a meaningful  way.
